ITC in Rome

I'll be going to Rome for the annual ITC competion with an all Aussie team! Should be good fun.

I don't have any expectations since I haven't played FoGAM since last years ITC.

I'm bringing a Tatar army for the first time. 850 points, everything superior except the one average handgunner unit. Only 12 bg, so gotta be careful.

Rule 1, don't stand in front of knights, it hurts

Lisbon ITC

Slightly late post but last weekend I was in Lisbon for the FogAM ITC team completion as part of the barbarian team.  Next year it will be held in Rome!

Our team ended up 2nd from bottom, which is the same as last year, so,,at least we didn't get any worse.

Was my first time playing the fog2 rules at a comp, I only had one practice game before, so,, there were lots of little tricks that I didn't know.

I eded up with a big win, a big loss, a draw (17-17) and a loosing draw.

I got the big win vs Portugal 2, the draw vs France 2, the big loss to England 1 and the loosing ear to USA 1.

I was in the medieval pool with my early Hungarians.

Anyhow
Here are the results

France 1: 328
GB 2: 305
Italy: 298

USA 2: 274

FoGAM v2 has been released

The Field of Glory rules have been updated and version 2 has come out.

So far, it's only electronically available, which is a bold decision.

There is talk of a published set coming out in the near future.

Lisbon 2012

I'm off to play in in Lisbon this weekend.

I will be my first FoGAM comp for the year, so, hope I don't embarrass  myself too much.

Lisbon in a team comp done by country, so, a bunch of Anzacs are flying over from the world to hopefully give a good spanking.

I'll be playing in my favorite pool, the full metal medieval pool.  I'll be bringing in the Medieval Germans with a small twist, a Swiss ally.

The medieval pool has been restricted to some twenty odd lists, of only one which is a skirmisher army (Santa Hermanded), so, the rest of the armies will be proper ones.

I reckon that there will be quite a few Ordonannce French and 100 years war English running around.

At least we can get stuck in.

Wonder who will be in my pool?

Derby 2011 wrap up

So, that was Derby 2011.

Had a good comp with very good opponents and no rules lawering. Got frustrated with just having 12 bgs. You need to have at least 14, if you aren't that great a player.

Now, Warfare is in a month....

Where is my Renaissance army....

Derby 2011, rnd 4

Final game and a big win. Had a civil war facing another Anglo-Norman army.

My opponent suffered from a catastrophic meele round which saw his centre disappear in one turn due a unit breaking. It cause another three units to break.

Derby 2011, rnd 3

And I got flushed! Ran up against an Andalusian army that rolled me. Couldn't win a close combat to save my life and went down in the final bound. All my spear needed to do was hold on and by routing, broke the army.

Facing an army with four more battle groups than you is hard work.

Derby rnd 2

Well, I got put bakc in my box. Just got thrashed with a 1-24 result. Was playing against an Irish army. Lots of medium foot running around and I rolled some crud dice. My opponenet was kind enough to use this to his advantage and pick me to pieces.

Hopefully, better luck next game

Derby 2011 rnd 1

Woot! Got a big win. Hopefully it won't be my only win for the comp.

I played a Feudal Castilian arm with my Anglo Normans. Got lucky early in the game and managed to break thru one flank.

Derby 2011

Off to Derby 2011 next weekend.

Going to be borrowing an Anglo Norman army for the first time. I'm playing in the pre heavy armoured knights period, so should be interesting.

Campaign 2011

Campaign is on again. Its a great idea for a comp, five armies in a limited time pool. People go in a team of three and each has to play in a different pool.

The comp is also held in the middle of a shopping mall to attract new players and garner interest.

Sure beats a dingy hall.

This is going to be my pool for this year;

Post-Viking Scandinavian (Sweden)

Early Russian

Early Teutonic Knights

Golden Horde (Mongol Invasion

Feudal Polish

Roll Call 201 wrap up

So, overall, I ended up with one win, a big lose and two loosing draws.

It was a good comp, the Hungarians did well but have to work out how to protect my flanks. The undrilled cav just don't cut it.

Back to the drawing board for the next comp.

Roll Call 4

Hang Su

18-7 win!

First big win for the comp! It was a big battle for both us, nine broken battle groups on my side.

Finally managed to get my bow firing effectively and routed two units and caused his heavy foot to go disrupted just before my knights went in

Roll call game 3

Hang Su

20-5

Ow ow ow, a shark who had been knocked down to my end of the pool was after blood. A couple mistakes made and not being able to shoot anything caused my demise. Guess also letting his cav (s) into my flanks wasn't the best of ideas.

Roll Call game 2

Serbians vs Middle Hungarians

11-9 to the serbs.

My opponent was very tough, he's beat me the last four games so I was pretty worried. His knights ploughed into mine and preceeded to loose causing the centre of the table to collapse. He made up for it by taking my camp and my right flank.

Couple more turns and my knights would have pushed him off the table and light foot into his camp.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Roll Call game 1

Japanese vs Hungarians

12-8 win to the Japanese

Well, first game and I ran up against. Japanese army. I thought my pool was meant to be mounted? My opponent was mostly armoured medium foot with bow. Very tough game as the foot proved to be very tough and just wouldn't die.

Burton doubles comp

Went up to Burton this weekend to play a doubled FoG comp and placed ninth! We ended up with 62 points and the winner was on 72, so we were in there with a chance.

Good comp all round.

Opponents an scores were

Rnd 1 100 years English 9-11
Rnd 2 Medieval French 23-2
Rnd 3 Catalan company 7-13
Rnd 4 Middle Hungarians 24-1

Woot! Didn't lose the army at all and the draws were tight games. The English battle was a blood bath with them poising 12 of 15 battle groups and us 14 of 16.

Burton doubles comp

First comp of the year! I'mmoff to Burton for a doubles comp of FoG. It's a comp that allows any army from 1100AD onwards, so should be interesting. We are bringing in Medieval Castilian as that's My partners army. Nit looks tres nice. Apparently, Burton is a brewery town, so there might be some drinking.....

High Wycombe Fog

Well, that was High Wycombe.

I brought in my Medieval City Germans in for their last open comp. They got torn apart by two armies, one big win and a draw. Not the best of results, so me thinks that they will be retired for the moment. The pike are OK but were not able to take a sustained combat. Once they lose a base, they start to lose big time.

Even against a 10bg army, I couldn't get a win, ending up with a draw.

Need more mounted and things that can run away. Moving 3mu just doesn't work in an open comp.

Time to go play FoGR for a while :-)
