6mm Modern americans

I bought some 6mm yanks from Heroics and Ros a while ago and have been struggling to work out how to paint them. I didn't just want to paint them green, done that before and it's boring. I got some inspiration from a few friends and the Internet and this is what I've done.

A-10 Warthog

MLRS and support

M109 artillery

The HQ stand

Sub commanders, forward observers

M1A1 tanks.

Lav-25

Lav-25 AT units

Lav-25 mortar units

Bradleys

Now to do the inf.

I used to do my inf on 30mmx15mm bases but this time I'm going to use 30mmx30mm bases, like the vehicles. It gives me a bit more space to work with and looks better

6mm US army WIP

After the FFT weekend, I got all inspired to do a US army for Cold War Commander.

So, off to H&R I went and a few things came my way.

I'm going with Lav-25 and M1s for this army, with a few black hawks, Apaches and a CH-53, just because I love the model.

I do love the look of the Lav-25.

UN command bases

I'm going to be playing in a large Fist Full of Tows moderns game in a few weeks and have been asked to bring up some command bases for the UN observers.

So, here they are

I've used BTR-80s as the vehicles.  I have always liked the look of them and have seen photos of real UN troops using these vehicles.

Additions to my 6mm British

At Salute this year, I ran into Heroics and Ross and was able to pick up a few additions to my 6mm British modern army.

It's looking pretty well rounded now the army.

Time to start on the next one....  :-)

The F-16

The A-10.  I know it's not British but can you blame me?

Chinook to get you to the battle in style

Big game of Russians vs British

A few weeks ago Michael and I got to have a big game of Cold War Commander.

10,000 points of Russians vs 5,000 points of British, with no troops after 1990.

We played the game over two tables with the Russians trying to break thru the British defenses.

The Brits put up a good defense but there were just too many Russians.

It was a great game, lots of airstrikes, air assaults, artillery and tanks.

Even with that many points on the table, the game still flowed nicely.

Looking forward to the next game.

Need to buy a few new figures though, need more tanks!

6mm Modern British

Here is my British army for Cold War Commander. I've found a few guys at the club who are keen for a bit of modern day action. We are focusing on the the end of the cold war period so ATGW is still effective.

The figures are from Heroics and Ross. They are not as detailed as GHQ, but they are cheap and heck on the table top you don't notice.

Commander in Chief

Forward Air Observer

6mm royal marines

Couple of pictures of my 6mm royal marines that I've just finished painting up. I'll post a picture or two of their chinook.

Time to storm the beaches!

15mm Moderns

Mmmmmm, 15mm moderns.......... must have!

I can just see me buying a few of these. I do like the 15mm range and I really want to get some moderns.

I going to base these up using Flames of War bases and going to use them with Ambush Alley and Cold War Commander.

SELWG Open Day

This weekend I went down to the South East London Wargaming Groups open day in Crystal Palace.

Lots of traders and 20+ demostration games covering a variety of periods and scales from Ancients thru to Moderns.

Got to meet Jon from GZG which was nice. First time I have ever met a publisher of a set of rules that I really like (Full Thrust and Star Grunt). No surprise, but my credit card took a thrashing at his store, he has released a new range of 15mm figures which just rock.

I also met the vendor of 1/600 scale modern aircraft. These will be perfect for Cold War Commander. Once I remember his details, I'll post them

Here are some photos
