Britcon 2017

The Elephants WON!!!!!

The mad experiment of the Elephants worked, much to my surprise.  It was fun to see peoples expression when I deployed 10 elephants.

End result was three big wins and three winning draws.  It does help when you have an army of 18 battle groups, it allows you to loose a few.

At Britcon we were trying out the v1.9 rules that have been developed on the forum.  The only deviation from the forum rules were the points cost for mounted.

Game 1 vs Stephen's Burmese.

The two elephant armies line up against each other.  22 elephants on the table, 35 battle groups.

the table did seem to be sagging in the middle......

Stephen deployed with a mass of elephants on one side, plus a flank march.  Just what I needed, cav in my rear....

The Elephants advance!

I had my elephants more spread out, Stephen went with the big hammer option

All the elephants charge, after the bow shooting proved to be ineffective

Somehow much to everyones surprise, the foot held and proceeded to break all the elephants in a few turns.  Once done, the rest of the Burmese were rapidly wrapped up.

Game 2 vs Keith's Japanese

The great clash of a Vegetable Jalfrezzi with Garlic Naan vs Sushi

Both armies looked at each other and went for the simple tactic, line up and advance.
Who would be the winner?  Elephants or Armoured foot with Spears?

Elephants!!

Keith deployed a waterway to lock down a flank, which worked for me as well.  My army was designed to fill the entire deployment zone and then the flanks.

 The Japanese camp
 Japanese foot, all very pretty.

The lines advance, shooting not proving very effective, the Samurai had armour.

 The two lines crash together.
The Samurai found that spear is good, Elephants is better.
 2nd to last game
More Samurai
Lynette had a different composition to Keith, she went for more average troops, but a lot more of them.
17 battle groups worth

Lynette was the only opponent to actually kill any elephants

the result was a winning draw to the Elephants, but if we had a had a few more turns, I was in a world of trouble with Samurai charging my troops in the rear.

Britcon 2017 R&R

The Britcon Runners and Riders has been posted.

Very different theme from the usual, two Elephant armies!

ADLG in Salamanca

The CLWC mob descended on mass to Salamanca for the ADLG competition, part of the larger "Worlds" competition.  We were just one of several competitions, there was a large showing for Flames of War, various Warhammer options and Kings of War.

I ended up somewhere mid table, three wins, 2 breaks and a draw, so, not bad for my first open.

My Feudal Germans got rolled mostly by the elephant armies, I didn't have anything to stop them stomping me.

Few night time photos of the old town

The old town centre, at 1 in the morning.

Random Elephant artwork in the centre of the town.  Every few minutes a cloud of steam would appear out of it's bum.

Now for a few games!

Game 1 against Inakki, who ultimately won the competition.
He was using Gaznavids, basically, Elephants and Heavy Cav/Bow

I tried to turn my line to minimise the impact.  Once the elephants crashed in, my spear went down very rapidly.

Game 2, first win vs Ming Chinese
They had elephants, which I wasn't expecting.

Luckily, I managed to avoid the Elephants and slam my knights into the foot, breaking them before the Elephants rampaged thru me.

Fedual Germans

After many years playing & painting FoGR, it's been good to get back to painting my medievals.  Yes yes, I know, there is a theme going on here.

I bought a bunch of Donnington miniatures at Salute and have been busy painting them up.

The knights are from Mirlington, who I've had for years.  I stripped them as they were painted rather badly.

I've been given some tips on my basing from some of my club mates and I've given them a go.

The generals

Donnington General

Foot Knights
I'll be using these as either foot knights or 2HW

 Corvus Belli Spearmen

ADLG in Salamanca

The Spanish are running the worlds this year in Salamanca and the Central London mob are descending on mass for the ADLG competition.

It's an open competition and I have no idea how I'll go.  I'm hoping for mid table.

The comp runs over three days and we are hoping for some tapas and red wine time.

I'm looking forward to catching up with the Italian team, didn't get to talk much to them at the Belgium comp as I was running FoGR.

El Creator will be there (Herve Caille).

First game will be a historical matchup.  Only two elephant armies, which surprises me

This is the runners and riders (six more to come)

Worlds 2017

It's almost July and time to think about the Worlds.

This year, I'll be joining the central London mob as part of our pre Brexit tour and joining them in Salamanca for ADLG.

They had us as wine and sunshine.

We don't expect to do well, we are aiming for mid table this time, last year, the CLWC got spanked very hard at the Worlds in Belgium.

It's an open period, allowing for two armies lists, so, like most people, it will be an anti elephant list and one for everything else.

I've got no idea what to bring.

Rules :

L’Art de la Guerre - 2014 (V3) with all clarifications and official errata at: http://www.artdelaguerre.fr/fr/regles.php

The umpire’s rulings will be final.

We will use the standard scoring system found in the rules.

Army lists :

All army lists are authorized. The lists will not exceed 200 points. Players will be able to send in two versions of the same list without any restrictions on the date or geographical origin, After announcing your list to your opponent, both players will place on the table the version of the list they will use before the initiative die roll. After all ambushes are revealed and flank marches have arrived, both players will check the other’s list. All mistakes will be penalized by the umpire.

In order to make list checking easier, please use the following website to create your army list (allies in the last command):  http://www.littlearmydesigner.com/adg/fr

Please indicate in the “troop description” the description as found in the army list in the rulebook.

All lists must be sent to the umpire by Monday 10th July 2017 at:  adgworlds2017@gmail.com

On 15th July, the list of participants and their lists will be published. In order to encourage players to respect the deadline, after July 15th all published army lists will be considered reserved and no longer available for late entries.
