ADLG-R AAR Caroline Imperialist vs Imperial Spanish

Mike and I got ADLG-R on the table this week with a civil war between his Caroline Imperialist and my Imperial Spanish.

I won the initiative and chose to invade Spain in the plains.

The table was quite open with a water way running down one side.

Mike chose both enclosed fields and they landed on his side of the table.  One of them proved to be a right pain in the backside as a battle unit of arquebus sat in it and I could't dig them out.

The end result was a major win to Mike's Caroline Imperialist.  My Tercios failed to hold the line and my knights and heavy cav on both flanks failed to punch thru.

My centre comprised of four tercios and a colunella. Mike had three tercios and three keils.  One keil and one tercio was elite.

Both of us had mounted on the flanks with a arquebus unit advancing into the fields.

Turn 2
The Imperial spanish loose most of the shooting and are using carbine mounted to slow down the advancing tercio.

The Carbine troops re-deploy to the rear after getting shot up.
Mikes's tercios advance very aggressively.

Turn 5
The lines start to clash.  Two of my tercios take on an elite keil and those pesky two handed swordsmen start chipping away.

Meanwhile, on my right hand flank, my mounted wing has retreated and the tercio is about to do something very painful to my artillery......

The Caroline Imperialist line crashes in and I lose almost every round of combat.  I think I rolled five one or twos in a row.

ADLG-R AAR Early Imperial Spanish vs French Wars Catholic

Mike has been busy and rebased a bunch of figures that haven't seen the day of light in many years. The French won the initiative and invaded Spain. A large Swiss contingent had been hired and were up for a decent fight and came charging down the center of the table. There flanks were protected by Tercios, Gendarmes and Caracole Horse. An LMI Arquebus unit made a bee line towards the enclosed field and proved to be a right royal pain.

The Spanish deployed several Tercios and two Colunellas with heavy artillery in the middle and mounted on the flanks. The terrain didn't help and the Gendarme heavy left flank didn't add much value to the game.

The end result was a narrow win to the Spanish, breaking the French but took heavy casualties.

Mikes's Caracole units were the heros of the day, killing two Elite Gendarmes and a medium cav, while the Swiss were beaten back by some very accurate heavy artillery fire.

The Tercios with arquebus did manage to get some shooting in and took a beating before finally breaking

It was great to get that many Tercios, Keils and other large formations on the table and get nearly everyone in combat. You got the feel of the period.

20mm Chinese for ADLG

Ohh dear,

the 20mm/25mm has bitten me and have now bought a new army.

I've gone for 20mm figures for my Chinese army.  It was a lot cheaper and lighter than the lead version.

ADLG-R AAR Early 30 Years War Swedes vs New Model English

Have been busy over the last few months with ADLG comps, going to the Worlds in Rome and then up to Britcon in Manchester.

Things have calmed down a bit and now finally got some -R back to the table.

Also got to give my new cloth from Wargamers Whims a run. 

Martin brought his New Model English and I brought in the Early 30 Years War Swedes

I went for an agressive army with Gustavus as the Strategist, so, had an initiative of +3.

The Swedes won the initiative and invaded England.

The Swedes had a strong center with four Elite Salvo units, a medium artillery and Gustavus as their commander.

On the right hand flank, the dragoons deployed in an enclosed field and their far flank was protected by two Medium Cav with Carbine and Commanded Shot and two of the Heavy Swedish Pistol Cav.

The Left hand flank had one Medium Cav with Carbine and Commaded Shot, two Heavy Swedish Pistol Cav and 1 x Swedish Hakapelita aka Heavy Elite Cav Shock.

Martin had a solid line of pike & shot and medium artillery.  The left hand flank had a dragoon and Heavy Cav Pistol while the right hand flank had the Elite Heavy Cav Pistol.

The Swedes don't mess around, advancing agressively to the English with a triple move!

The Swedish Dragoons beat up on the English Dragoon, safe in the knowledge of having supporting mounted behind them.

Turn 3
The English Dragoons retreat which the Swedish foot's advance slows down after some very acurate English shooting.

The Swedish mounted advance to within shooting range.

The attack doesn't go completly to plan with a Salvo unit being broken, but the remaining Swede unit is free.....

Turn 6
The Swedes finally break thru the remaining mounted on the right hand flank and advance.
The Dragoons shot away the English Dragoon and make a beline to the baggage.

The Swedish foot charge on mass before the English flank charge arrives.

On the left flank, the Swedish mounted receive a charge from the English Elite and it doesn't go well for the Swedes.

Turn 8
The Swedes prove victorious after decimating the English centre and right hand flank!

ADLG-R Early 30 Years War Germans vs Later 30 Years War Swedish

Sean has been busy painting and basing up a bunch of Pike & Shot that were originally for FoGR, but never got there.

One of the joys of ADLG-R is the smaller figure count, so, you can paint up an army much quicker, or, buy lots more armies.

Sean had put some banners on his pike and was running them as Early 30 Years War Germans, so I brought in my Later 30 Years War Swedes for a vaguely historical game.

The Swedes won the initiative and attacked.  Would have been rude not to.

Sean went for a deep deployment with his six foot in a dense formation, with heavy cuirassiers on the left and reiters on the right.

I went for the classic long line of foot with my heavy elite mounted on the left and the non heavy elite on the right.

The German reiters beat the Swedish mounted and advance to take the guns.  Some very desperate close range fire from the artillery slows the attack.

The Swedish mounted finally broke thru the German mounted wing and started to roll up the German flanks.

End result, big win to the Swedes!
